Sasje's Instruments

The fine instrument maker named Sasje has released a number of free Kontakt 5 instruments. Read about them here. She says "My health is seriously deteriorating and I won't be able to create something new or maintain them. Do what you want with them, as long as you don't sell them." So I've put them up on my mediafire account. God bless you Sasje and I pray your health is improving.

I can't emphasize enough, I didn't create these instruments Sasje did. I'm just trying to make sure they continue to be available for folks to download.

Sonatina Symphony Orchestra for Kontakt

Another Kontakt libary project. This time the legendary Creative Commons Licensed Sonatina Symphony Orchestra created by Mattias Westlund. In addition to the samples included in SSO, I've added some samples that Mattias put up on his blog after the release of Sonatina. Each instrument has all articulations included in a single Kontakt instrument.

Allow me to quote from the Sonatina Symphony Orchestra website.
"Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra is a free orchestral sample library. If you already have the SSO samples, Thorsten Keller was kind enough to create an small 8 meg file that allows you to use the new Kontakt mappings without re downloading the samples. It contains the nkis and the wallpapers. Just point the instrument to your SSO samples folder and then the Wallpaper and save it.

Musyng Kite for Kontakt

Sarcyan has created a huge Soundfont called Musyng Kite. At 200 plus instruments and over 6500 samples, I'm glad for Kontakt's fairly easy conversion features. Thanks Native Instruments!

Just so we are on the same page. These are fun, classic, retro sounds. They are not intended to take the place of the sounds on the K5 Factory library. As you can see the piano is 50 megs, while the Salamander Piano available on this site is nineteen times larger and of course you can hear the difference. If you want massively sampled modern sounds this isn't for you. If you want fun sounds, carefully molded by Sarcyan that will give your audio pallet an interesting slightly quirky feel, you will enjoy. There are lots of odd sounds, sound effects, cool vintage synth sounds and just obscure instruments that might be hard to find.

Here is the entire soundfont in one big file. It is sorted in GM order aka piano, chromatic, organs...

Sarcyan says "Please note that Evanessence (previous name of Musyng Kite) soundfont is a compilation of samples from different people and my own collections/work. Many of the samples were edited from different free sources and hence it is a free soundfont, thus not meant to redistribute as a commercial soundfont or use it for any commercial purpose. Other than that, you can sell any music and so on you have made with it, it's up to you."

Originally sampled by professional organist Lars Palo and released under a Creative Commons liscense, this a 40 stop organ has been converted to Kontakt 5 by bigcat Instruments. Thanks to scripting by Matt McKay, this organ is the most extensive instrument we have ever released. It features over 100 Reverbs, Unison X, Stereo Enhancement, a 4 band Solid EQ and other effects like Chorus, Phaser and Surround Panning.

Goldenhelix was kind enough to fix some looping issues on some of the stops. You can drop his new nki file into your base directory for the organ for the fix.

According to John's Organ Works, a 40 stop organ has 1,099,511,627,780 combinations, toss in the ability to change almost everything about this organ's sound, then multiply in over 100 reverbs and  you have the ability to customize your sound to an astounding degree.

There are two buttons / lights under the organ stops. The left one turns that stop on while the right one unloads that stop from memory, so if you are running low on memory you can easily unload samples you aren't using.

This organ was built in 1967 by Hammarbergs Orgelbyggeri AB for the church in Bureå, Sweden.

The recording of the samples was done in May 2010 by Lars Palo with a M-Audio Microtrack II and two Studio Projects B1 condenser microphones. The recording settings were stereo 24 bit and 96000 Hz samplerate.

This sampleset is created by Lars Palo and Graham Goode. Noise reduction of the samples was made with Nick Appletons Noise Reduce software.


This sampleset is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5. Consider this kontakt instrument to be the same. If used commercially please credit Lars Palo.

MF Natural Concert Guitar

Looking around for interesting instruments, I started playing with this SFZ guitar from Markus Fielder. I was impressed by the natural sound. On examining the samples, I was surprised that it was quite lightly sampled, however the round robins and the fret noises seemed to disguise this limitation. While not a huge instrument or heavily sampled, I think you will be pleased with the overall sound.

Here is the organ with separate patches for Swells, Grands and Pedals so you can easily play them on separate keyboards for that real organ feel. Note these don't have the samples included, you still need to download them from the link above.

Note that when you start the organ there will be NO sound you must choose an organ stop. The left side controls the light blue keys, the right side the dark blue keys and the two bottom buttons are the green keys.  The upper buttons are the Swells, the lower button the Greats and two lowest buttons the Pedals. You can combine as many or as few 'stops' as you like.

Nick Appleton sampled the organ of St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Neutral Bay. I've turned it into an instrument for Kontakt 5. On Nick's website he gives a lot of information about then organ including its specifications.

MSLP Project

I've converted most of the MSLP instruments to Kontakt 5. I think it was about 5 years ago that Erick Kvist released this instrument collection. It is an impressive feat to create something like 15,000 samples. I thank him and the musicians who helped him for making these samples available to us. There are a number of beautifully sampled instruments here, such as the flute, the trombone and the cello and even those more lightly sampled are still fun sounds than can make a nice addition to your instrument library. Also for the kid in you, ten sampled toys.

Erick is back with a new website. It has the samples along with NN-XT patches for you Reason folks.

MSLP Flute Grbavac Demo

MSLP Flute Grbavac - over 900 samples, 180 megs compressed. There are vibrato and non-vibrato modes with 3 velocity layers, round robin staccatos and more.

MSLP Trombone Knutsson - 650 samples, 84 megs, 3 velocity layers, staccato round robins, gliss, swells and more. Note that the sonic jump from the loudest layer to the middle layer is quite extreme.
MSLP Trombone Knutsson Ensemble -  500 samples, 56 megs, when 1 trombone isn't enough.

MSLP Cello Lofberg -  68 megs, 800+ samples, 3 velocity layers in sustain and staccato and more
